FAFSA Night

Greetings Seniors and Senior Parents,

First, we are having our Financial Aid/FAFSA Information Meeting January 22, 2025 at 5:00 pm at the High School.

If you have a senior for the first time this school year or need clarification, the FAFSA is the free federal financial aid program/application. If your student is planning on attending college, including community college and technical schools, it is imperative that you complete the FAFSA. Most colleges will withhold any of their own aid offerings or even scholarships until they receive the student's completed FAFSA. Even if you do not plan to accept the federal student loans, the colleges need the completed FAFSA and may delay acceptance or their own aid offerings until they receive it.

Before filling out the FAFSA, the parent and student must create a FSA ID. Here is the link to that page: https://studentaid.gov/fsa-id/create-account/launch

This must be done a minimum of 5 days prior to the January 22nd  meeting to ensure the FSA ID has been processed. You must have a FSA ID to complete the FASFA.

This is just a reminder for those seniors that are college-bound that most all college applications opened on August 1st. You can apply directly to the college or university on their website or if you are applying to multiple colleges you can apply through the Common Application. Many colleges offer application fee waivers at various times so follow them on social media or or sign up for email alerts for when they offer this. If you are on free or reduced lunch you are eligible for fee waivers for application fees. Just contact me and I will verify and send in the fee waiver.

If you apply to any college NOT through the common app, you must inform us to send your transcript. We do not automatically get notified by the college that you applied to. You must also sign a release and waiver before we can send transcripts.

Also, if you would like to improve your ACT score for admissions purposes there is a test date on February 8, 2025 and April 5th 2025. We also have waivers to cover the cost.

I have also attached a form on how to complete a FSA ID. Remember parents and students need to create one prior to completing the FASFA. I have also attached a checklist to help you have all the documents you need to bring if you would like help completing the FASFA at the meeting.

If you have any questions please contact us.
